The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has warned that legal practitioners found charging clients in foreign currencies will face prosecution.
The warning was issued by the Acting Zonal Director of the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the EFCC, ACE I Bawa Usman Kaltungo, on Friday, September 11, 2026.
Kaltungo spoke when he received a delegation of the Nigerian Bar Association Lagos Task Force on Illegal Practice of Law at his office in Lagos.
The delegation, led by its Head, Moshood Abiola, was on a courtesy visit to the EFCC zonal directorate.
During the meeting, Kaltungo expressed concern over the involvement of some lawyers in practices he described as illegal and unethical.
He specifically warned legal practitioners against charging clients in foreign currencies, stressing that the commission would take action against anyone found culpable.
“The Commission would not hesitate to prosecute anyone found culpable,” Kaltungo said.
The EFCC reiterated its commitment to addressing financial and economic offences and urged professionals to operate within the law.
